What mistakes should I avoid doing during final year MBBS?

Mistakes aren't supposed to be avoided, they are to be learnt from. But considering us medicos, in our final year, mistakes are a MISTAKE by themselves.

According to me, 3 most essential things to be followed : FFF

  • Final year = seldom knowledge based + more of concept reestablishment + maximum of mugging up.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE :

Ensure that you DON'T waste time on trying to learn all medicine and surgery and obstetrics and pediatrics. That should have begun in the fag end of your 2nd year abd throughout the entirety of your third year.

  • FOOD : ensure the type of food, the adequacy and the quality of food you eat is never compromised. How's this part of final year mistakes? Well, eat the wrong food and you can see precious time fly away while you wait for the contents of your lumens to clean themselves. Also the type of food can have an impact on the running of your everyday life and routine. Fresh fruits when possible, some bland diet, more of fibres and less of fat. All are additives for a positive framework of mind.
  • FAMILY : fourth year is arguably the toughest in medicine, and this is the time when slipping into negative habits and depression is easiest. The easy way to escape this is to find comfort in your mom, dad or siblings. Family time is quality time and not time waste. Do understand that the fact that in this dog eat dog World having people who love you unconditionally is the biggest morale booster you can have. So don't miss out on that.

NEXT UP three Ps

  • Postings and patients : they are by far the most important components of your medical career. Diligently attend them and learn. This is the easiest and shortest way to learn the clinical aspects of a disease.
  • Preparation for the finals : remember, to master the above point, you hav to read well. Your eyes see what your mind knows. And that alone gets registered. Try to go through all the case histories as well as theory related to it. You'll never forget your concepts.
  • PROCRASTINATION IS A SIN : my single constant answer. I can never support this statement enough. Amongst the seven sins of man, this has to be the eighth. To master the patients, the postings and the preparation, shun this one negative aspect. Parties, people, bae, crush, love, sex. All. Can. Wait. But throwaway your time for these, and you'll end up waiting six more months to clear your papers.
  • Most important conclusion : None of this matters if you don't have the self belief and confidence to go to the top. Every person, the topper and last scrapper, to the middle ones, all are doctors. What differentiates them is their confidence about the skill set they have acquired. I can put a venflon without flinching, I came last second in my class, while the gold medal student learns to put an IM injection in the gluteal region, his hands still tremble. We both wear the same coats, visit the same ward, but I keep my head high, he keeps his in between the covers of a book. My eyes search for opportunities to learn, his search for answers to one mark question which is ambiguous. That makes all the difference.
  • All the best. For all that's to come and all that yiu are to face. Remember, you compete against you. And you alone are your deterrent to success and determinant of your failure.
